About Us

A metal cog

Established in 1988 Gilligan Engineering has been serving the gamma radiography industry for over 25 years. We are uniquely placed to service all of your gamma radiography needs....

Collectively we have over 90 years of experience in the industry. Building on this we have a team of  highly qualified engineering & technicial staff and our own “in house” design and fabrication facility.

As a “free house” we have excellent relationships with several source suppliers to ensure that you never experience an interruption to your supply.

We offer a range of products and services aimed at enabling you to meet your obligations, from sources, projectors and radiography equipment to radiation monitoring equipment, sineage, training and design.

In addition to our products and services we can help you achieve compliance with free and impartial advice based on our knowledge of the regulations and our experience of industry best practice and by placing at your disposal our database on which we record all movements of sources and equipment between us and every service or calibration that we carry our for you. Free of charge and at any time we can produce for you any of the following reports:

  • Sources supplied to you detailing activity levels when supplied to you as well as today´s activity
  • Transport container and projector movements between us and you
  • Equipment service dates

You could not be in safer hands…

Dedication to quality and ensuring the highest standards in safety, customer service and design are upheld demonstrated by our Quality Management System which is ISO9001:2008 accredited We thoroughly understand the regulatory framework with which we must comply We listen to our clients and respond to their needs

  • Collectively over 90 years’ industry experience
  • Energetic well qualified and enthusiastic technicians
  • In house design and fabrication facility
  • Several source suppliers - we never experience interruption to our supply
  • We have a thorough understanding of our regulatory framework
  • We listen to our clients and respond to their needs.

Working with ionising radiations means that high standards of safety and reporting must be upheld. These standards are set and compliance with them assessed by several regulatory bodies

  • The Environment Agency/SEPA
  • The Health and Safety Executive
  • The Department for Transport

To help comply with the Ionising Radiation Regulations which require all equipment to be regularly serviced , we can produce an annual report of all equipment serviced or calibrated by Gilligan Engineering showing when the next service or calibration is due. We are dedication to quality and ensuring that the highest standards in safety, customer service and design are upheld, demonstrated by our quality management system which is ISO9001:2008 accredited.

The Future of Gamma Radiography

Gilligan Engineering Automated Windout

The Gilligan Engineering Automated Windout is a revolutionary piece of equipment that can deliver zero dose gamma radiography. The weatherproof case houses the twin microprocessor PCB, power supplies and UPS battery. The revolutionary Automated Windout allows the user to use mains power or battery power for an automated exposure.

The Automated Windout can be programmed by the operator for not only exposure time but also prewarn (imminent) delay. Conventionally the radiographer would remotely expose the isotope from a relatively close distance resulting in a dose experienced by the radiographer. The Automated Windout allows the source to be exposed automatically at a suitable delay preset by the radiographer. The radiographer will program this time depending on the time it would take for them to vacate the area. The Automated Windout will then pause for this time before exposing the source. This technique can result in zero dose radiography and is a real milestone in the aim of dose minimisation.
